A Fusion of Art and Play at Metsä Village
From May 2nd to 3rd, 2026, Metsä Village will host an array of “KAWAII” themed activities. These include hands-on workshops, delightful character greetings, and an expansive outdoor “Kids Park” designed for children. This initiative aims to blend the vibrant world of contemporary art with the joy of outdoor recreation, creating a perfect family getaway.

KAWAII Golden Week Highlights
Visitors can immerse themselves in various free and interactive experiences at the HYPER MUSEUM HANNO’s front square and 2nd-floor lobby:

Kawaii Decora Accessory Experience: Step into the world of “Decora” fashion, a vibrant, layered style born in Harajuku in the 1990s and now globally trending with Y2K fashion. Popular Harajuku shop “6%DOKIDOKI” will have a temporary booth at Metsä Aukio, offering accessory making and sales. Staff in Decora fashion will also be available for photos.

“PAINT IT COLORFUL.” Coloring Experience: Unleash your creativity with coloring pages featuring designs from artist Sebastian Masuda’s works, including “Colorful Rebellion -More is More-” and his signature plush toys. Special edition colored pencils will be available to bring your “Kawaii” visions to life at Metsä Aukio.

KAWAII Bear Greeting: Encounter a large, moving bear costume character, a universal “Kawaii” motif for Sebastian Masuda, as it emerges from his artistic world to greet visitors in the HYPER MUSEUM HANNO lobby (free area).

Sebastian Masuda’s Art Photo Booth: Capture your “Kawaii” moments at a free photo booth in the HYPER MUSEUM HANNO lobby. Choose original exhibition frames and take studio-quality photos with bright ring lights. When the KAWAII Bear is present, guests can even pose with it! Captured data can be taken home via QR code.

KAWAII WORLD SHOP: Explore a special pop-up shop featuring popular and limited-edition “Kawaii” goods by Sebastian Masuda. Create your own unique charm by combining various cute pieces, available in the HYPER MUSEUM HANNO lobby (free area).

The “KAWAIITOPIA” Exhibition: A Deep Dive into Kawaii Art
The centerpiece of this celebration is Sebastian Masuda’s major exhibition, “KAWAIITOPIA -GO TO HEAVEN(HELL)-“, running until August 30th, 2026, at HYPER MUSEUM HANNO. This exhibition marks 30 years since the opening of his Harajuku base, “6%DOKIDOKI,” and offers an immersive journey through “7 Kawaii Hells” to explore the core of “Kawaii” amidst conflict. Highlights include the pink “KAWAII-CORE ISLAND” floating on Lake Miyazawa and the colossal “Polychromatic Skin -Gender Tower-” at the entrance.

Sebastian Masuda, a New York-based artist born in 1970, is renowned as a pioneer of Japan’s “Kawaii” pop culture. His distinctive use of color has transcended art, fashion, and entertainment, with notable works including the art direction for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s “PONPONPON” music video and the production of KAWAII MONSTER CAFE. He was also recognized as a Cultural Envoy by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2017 and a visiting scholar at New York University in 2018. Special “KAWAII Train” Experience
Until April 26th, 2026, embark on a special Seibu Railway “KAWAII Train” journey from Ikebukuro to Hanno, aiming for “KAWAIITOPIA.” This unique experience, produced by Sebastian Masuda, features a “FUTURE TRAIN” with Pink Bird attendants, a curated “Kawaii” BGM, special “Imagination Card” activities, and a Nordic “FIKA” (coffee break) experience with imported drinks and snacks. Upon arrival, an artist tour with Sebastian Masuda and museum director Shigeo Goto is held.
