ILLIT: A Rising Force in K-Pop

ILLIT, formed through the survival program ‘R U NEXT?’ broadcast from June to September 2023, is a five-member girl group comprising YUNAH, MINJU, MOKA, WONHEE, and IROHA, including two Japanese members. Their group name, a combination of “I WILL” (autonomous and active will) and “IT” (a pronoun signifying something special), embodies their ambition to be a group with “the potential to become anything.”

Debuting in March 2024 with their 1st Mini Album ‘SUPER REAL ME’, ILLIT quickly achieved global success with their title track “Magnetic.” The song rapidly surpassed 700 million streams on Spotify, marking the shortest period for a K-Pop group’s debut song to reach this milestone and setting numerous new records across various charts. In February 2025, they released their first Japanese original song, “Almond Chocolate,” composed by Nakajin of SEKAI NO OWARI, which became an exceptional long-running hit for a K-Pop group’s Japanese original. The group also uniquely received the “Excellent Work Award” at the prestigious 67th Japan Record Awards as an overseas artist.

Their highly anticipated Japan debut came on September 1st with the Japan 1st Single ‘時よ止まれ’, leading to numerous appearances on major Japanese music programs and events. This was followed by the release of their 1st Single Album ‘NOT CUTE ANYMORE’ on November 24th, which also garnered significant attention. By the end of the year, ILLIT solidified their strong popularity in Japan, appearing for the second consecutive year on Japan’s prestigious NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Battle), a major year-end musical event, and dominating other key music specials. Their latest release, the Japan 2nd Digital Single ‘Sunday Morning’, which serves as the opening theme for the second season of the TV anime ‘Hime-sama “Goumon” no Jikan desu’, dropped on January 13th, further amplifying expectations for their future endeavors.
