“Over six and a half years as a regular model, I spent almost the entire time from elementary school entrance to graduation with ‘bis,’ experiencing so many firsts and truly growing as a person,” Yuki Yoda reflected. “The ‘bis’ set, which I used to approach with nervousness, has now become my most comforting place. I am truly grateful for everything, including having built such a relationship.” Miku Kanemura added, “‘bis’ offered me numerous experiences through its shoots. The extraordinary shoots felt like being in a dream. I believe readers, too, could forget reality and become engrossed while reading ‘bis.’ It was truly a magazine packed with girls’ aspirations and ideals.” Ayame Tsutsui shared, “Many fans told me they loved ‘Ayame-chan in the world of bis,’ and I was always happy to know everyone looked forward to it. I will continue to love ‘bis’ forever.”

In their individual pages, each model also reflects on their journey with ‘bis,’ sharing memories of their first appearance, shooting experiences, moments of growth, and gratitude to readers. Their heartfelt words articulate what ‘bis’ means to them in this final issue.

A Cavalcade of ‘bis’ Models: Remembering the “Cute” Journey

The farewell issue also features a grand reunion of ‘bis’ models who have graced its pages over the years. Six models—Arisa Komiya, Nashiko Momotsuki, Hinami Mori, Noah Sato, Sakina Tonchiki, and Mirei Suganami (≠ME)—share their “Evermore, bis” memories, tracing the trajectory of “cuteness” that shines eternally in their hearts. They recount their initial nervousness and excitement during their first shoots, memorable projects, and favorite shots, offering a glimpse into their personal stories behind the magazine.

“At ‘bis,’ I challenged myself with many clothes I wouldn’t usually have the courage to wear, and I truly enjoyed ‘kawaii’ to the fullest. My values regarding fashion and expression expanded, and I feel it helped me develop my own core,” commented Arisa Komiya.

Hinatazaka46 members Yoko Shogenji and Kaho Fujishima, affectionately known as “Shogekaho,” make their second joint appearance, gracing the back cover and a special fashion shoot titled “A Special Holiday with Shogekaho.” This seven-page feature presents six dazzling holiday looks, imagining the duo’s festive celebrations, from enjoying cakes at a home party to exchanging gifts. It also introduces holiday cosmetic sets and winter beauty essentials.

“I was so happy that the theme was Christmas, which I love, and I enjoyed shooting with my fellow member Shogenji, eating cake and feeling like we were at a real party,” Kaho Fujishima shared. “The first fashion magazine I appeared in was ‘bis,’ so it’s full of wonderful memories.”

This marks his third appearance on an enlarged cover. He explores the “UNFADING Memory” of his aesthetics through five distinct looks and a long interview, reflecting on how ‘bis’ allowed him to showcase new facets of himself.

“Through the serialization, I believe I was able to show many new sides of myself. It was truly a delightful experience for me that not only my visuals but also my words were valued,” Sato recalled.

The conclusion of ‘bis’ magazine’s regular print run marks a significant moment for “Kawaii” culture, particularly the “girly” aesthetic it has championed. Since its relaunch, ‘bis’ has been more than just a fashion magazine; it has been a canvas for artistic expression, featuring popular actresses and idols who embody its unique blend of sweetness and strength. While the print edition may be ending, the spirit of ‘bis’ will continue to thrive online, ensuring its influence on fashion, beauty, and the “girly heart” endures.

The ‘bis’ world continues to be shared through its digital platforms:

This transition from print to digital reflects the evolving landscape of media consumption, yet the core message of ‘bis’—celebrating individuality and an undying “girly heart”—remains a treasured treasure for its devoted readership, both in Japan and potentially for a growing global audience captivated by Japan’s unique Kawaii culture.
