An electrifying new chapter is about to unfold for fans of the popular TV anime ‘Gnosia,’ as its stage adaptation, ‘Gnosia The Live Playing Theater,’ prepares for its debut. Scheduled to run from August 21 (Friday) to September 6 (Sunday), 2026, at the Hikosen Theater (Starlight Theater), this production promises a unique, immersive experience where every show culminates in a different outcome.

The stage play is helmed by director Fumiya Matsuzaki, renowned for his work on numerous 2.5D stage productions such as the “MANKAI STAGE ‘A3!'” and “Engeki Chōi Tan ‘xxxHOLiC'” series. Matsuzaki also served as the werewolf game supervisor for the ‘Gnosia’ TV anime, bringing deep expertise in the genre. This adaptation introduces a groundbreaking element: its werewolf game segments will be entirely improvised, with creative cooperation from “Jinro The Live Playing Theater” (Oracle Knights), a group known for pioneering improvised werewolf-based dramas.
‘Gnosia’ originated as an indie game, later adapted into a TV anime in November 2025. It blends the suspense of a ‘Jinro’ (Werewolf) deduction game with a compelling science fiction time-loop mystery. The narrative centers on the starship D.Q.O., where crew members must identify and put into cold sleep the ‘Gnosia,’ an unknown entity mimicking humans. The protagonist, Yuri, is trapped in a loop, returning to “Day 1” regardless of their choices. The stage play faithfully recreates this world, combining the immersive storytelling of 2.5D theater with the unpredictable thrill of an improvised werewolf game.
The improvisational core means that actors receive their roles—be it crew, Gnosia, or engineer—just before each performance. They then embody their characters, engaging in spontaneous, word-driven battles of wit and emotion. This dynamic ensures that no two performances will be alike, offering a truly one-of-a-kind narrative experience for the audience. As Toru Kawakatsu, representative of Petit Depotto and the original creator, remarked, “To actually perform the ‘Gnosia’ game, where the plot changes with every play, on stage… it’s too wild!”
To ensure every fan can witness these unique, unfolding stories, all performances of ‘Gnosia The Live Playing Theater’ will be live-streamed. While further details on the streaming will be announced, it promises a comprehensive view of the intense verbal confrontations.
The production boasts a diverse cast, with 26 rotating members who will bring the beloved characters to life. Each actor, from SQ to Sha-Ming, expressed a mix of excitement and challenge in tackling the improvised nature of the play, eager to deliver a memorable experience to the audience. The lead roles of Yuri and Setsu will be played by Ginji Shidara and Hikaru Ikuta, respectively, who are committed to conveying the unique tension and human drama of ‘Gnosia’ on stage.
The performance schedule is divided into three distinct phases, each offering a different style of play:
-
Phase 1 (August 21-23): Each stage features three smaller meetings (5, 7, and 9 participants).
-
Phase 2 (August 25-28): A single 13-person meeting per stage, with two cast members serving as commentators.
-
Phase 3 (August 29-September 6): Each stage culminates in a full 15-person meeting.
