A Groundbreaking Blend of 2.5D Stage and Ad-Lib Storytelling
‘Gnosia’ itself has garnered a passionate following for its unique gameplay, combining Werewolf game mechanics with deep sci-fi elements and character-driven drama. The story unfolds on the interstellar travel ship D.Q.O., where crew members must identify and put into cold sleep the ‘Gnosia’—an unknown entity mimicking humans. However, the protagonist, Yuri, finds themselves trapped in a time loop, returning to ‘Day 1’ regardless of their choices. This creates a tense atmosphere where trust is fragile, and secrets slowly unravel.
The stage adaptation, ‘Gnosia The Live Playing Theater,’ is poised to recreate this compelling world with a distinctive theatrical approach. Fumiya Matsuzaki, renowned for his work on numerous 2.5D stage productions like the ‘MANKAI STAGE ‘A3!” series, and who also served as Werewolf game supervisor for the ‘Gnosia’ anime, takes the helm as director. His deep understanding of both 2.5D aesthetics and Werewolf game dynamics positions this production to be a true highlight.
What makes this stage play truly revolutionary is its ad-lib nature. The Werewolf game portion of every single performance will be entirely improvised. Collaborating with ‘JINRO The Live Playing Theater’ (Oracle Knights), a pioneer in ad-lib drama based on Werewolf game rules, the production guarantees a fresh and unpredictable outcome each time. Cast members will only discover their roles (Crew, Gnosia, Engineer, etc.) moments before curtain call, leading to spontaneous, character-driven debates and strategic plays.
Cast and Crew Share Their Anticipation
Director Fumiya Matsuzaki expressed his profound connection to the project, stating, “This is a culmination, if I may say so personally. I will pour all my strength and knowledge into making this stage enjoyable.” His words highlight the immense passion driving this ambitious adaptation.
Key Staff & Cast Comments:
-
Fumiya Matsuzaki (Director): “The indie game ‘Gnosia’ boasts extraordinary fun across its scenario, characters, game system, and endings. The anime ‘Gnosia’ defied expectations by adapting what was deemed ‘impossible’ with overwhelming passion and skill, delivering a stunning finale. The ‘Gnosia’ universe consistently attracts incredible power from everyone involved. As a theatrical endeavor, this stage must exist beyond the stories and knowledge we’ve all nurtured and experienced together. I typically direct 2.5D plays, but for over a decade, I’ve also been a Werewolf live player under the name ‘Doctor Maddox.’ These connections led me to supervise the Werewolf game for the anime ‘Gnosia.’ I will pour all my strength and knowledge into making this stage enjoyable. I look forward to welcoming you aboard the D.Q.O. for these unique, one-time loops that can only happen now.”
-
Toru Kawakatsu (Petit Depotto Representative, Original Creator): “From game to anime, and now to stage—a new ‘Gnosia’ universe is expanding. This ambitious work features Matsuzaki-san, who supervised the Werewolf game for the anime, directing a never-before-seen, fully ad-lib 2.5D Werewolf sci-fi loop stage with cast members from ‘JINRO TLPT’ and other actors. To bring the ever-changing gameplay of ‘Gnosia’ to the stage is just incredible! I’m eagerly awaiting the performances, wondering what kind of stage it will become!”
-
Yoshitaka Kimura (TV Anime ‘Gnosia’ Producer): “During the anime’s production, I had the chance to watch ‘JINRO TLPT’ several times. It’s incredibly engaging. The experience of participating in a live mystery from a detective’s perspective is immensely stimulating. The moment you piece together statements and realize, ‘I know who the Werewolf is!’, you break out in a sweat. You also sweat profusely when your deduction is completely wrong. All of this is improvised in TLPT (The Live Playing Theater), and I believe ‘Gnosia The Live Playing Theater,’ bearing that name, will offer a truly unique storytelling experience. I hope everyone who enjoyed the anime will also enjoy the stage version of ‘Gnosia.’ As a fan myself, I’m determined to identify the Gnosia disguised as humans.”
-
Mina Sakuraba (JINRO TLPT Producer): “It is a great honor to merge the ‘JINRO TLPT’ system with the groundbreaking and delicate works of the original game and TV anime ‘Gnosia,’ to discover yet another new universe. This is a truly unique observational experience where a ‘different truth’ exists in the absolute live space of theatrical performance each time, and an ‘unknown ending’ unfolds before your eyes. We will continue to refine it until the moment we can deliver it to you. Please look forward to it!”
-
Ginji Shidara (Yuri): “‘Gnosia’ is a work with a truly unique charm. I am very much looking forward to seeing how much of this work’s unique excitement and tension we can bring to life in the theatrical space. It’s a joy to think about what Yuri believes and seeks on the D.Q.O. amidst the deep yet fragile connections between people. I will do my best to deliver the best stage with Director Fumiya Matsuzaki and all the wonderful cast and staff. I hope you will join us to witness what kind of scenery awaits at the story’s end.”
-
Hikaru Ikuta (Setsu): “I’m so happy to play my beloved Setsu! While this work is based on the Werewolf game, I feel that the lives and human dramas of the characters are one of its greatest charms. Our entire team will strive to deliver the world of ‘Gnosia’ to everyone with expressions only possible on stage. And guess what! In this production, the council meetings will unfold in real-time on stage! Please enjoy the thrilling sensation that no two performances will be the same. We sincerely await your visit!”
