The Enduring Appeal of Peanuts and Charles M. Schulz
For those unfamiliar with the global phenomenon that is Peanuts, it’s a comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz in 1950, featuring iconic characters like Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Peanuts Worldwide owns the intellectual property, with WildBrain, Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), and the Schulz family holding ownership stakes. The characters have left an indelible mark on pop culture, from animated specials on Apple TV+ to a vast array of merchandise and cultural events worldwide. Since 2018, Peanuts has also partnered with NASA on the Space Act Agreement, inspiring the next generation in space exploration and STEM.
The Charles M. Schulz Museum & Research Center, opened in 2002 in Santa Rosa, California, is dedicated to preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting Schulz’s art. It houses the world’s largest collection of Peanuts original artwork and offers programs for all ages, fostering a deeper understanding of cartoonists and comic art.
