Giving Back: The First-Ever Cat Food Drive
Beyond delicious treats, Seven-Eleven is extending its commitment to community support with its first-ever “Cat Food Drive.” As part of its broader “Food Drive” initiative, which repurposes surplus food for local charities, this new program focuses specifically on felines in need.
Starting in late February and running for six months, the Seven-Eleven Matsudo Tokiwadaira Ekimae store will collect unused cat food from customers and employees. These donations will then be distributed to animal welfare organizations supporting rescue cats. This initiative highlights a heartwarming blend of commercial celebration and social responsibility.

A Purr-spective on Kawaii Culture
An internal spokesperson shared, “We hope cat lovers will be delighted and soothed by the new cuteness we’ve prepared this year, different from last year. We’ve also included playful touches, like prices that echo ‘nyan-nyan-nyan’ (meow-meow-meow) and ‘niku-kyu’ (paw print), so please enjoy the products with these fun elements!” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the spirit of “kawaii” culture, where even small details are crafted to evoke joy and warmth.
This initiative by Seven-Eleven not only celebrates Cat Day with a delightful array of themed products but also demonstrates a commitment to social welfare through its cat food drive. It exemplifies how Japanese convenience stores are at the forefront of integrating cultural trends with community engagement, offering a model for how the global appreciation for “kawaii” can extend beyond mere aesthetics to foster both delight and compassion worldwide.
