Comedy Icon Kinichi Hagimoto Unleashes Live Anime Dubbing Spectacle in Shinjuku
Experience the Unpredictable Fusion of Live Performance and Anime Creation
Japan’s revered comedy legend, Kinichi Hagimoto, affectionately known as “Kin-chan,” is making a highly anticipated return to live performance with a groundbreaking event: the “Let’s Make Anime with Kin-chan! Public ‘Afureko’ Live.” This unique spectacle, blending live showmanship with anime creation, is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Shinjuku Batious in Tokyo.

The event is more than just a live show; it’s a public recording for Kinichi Hagimoto’s innovative television program, “9-kai no Hagimoto-san!” (Mr. Hagimoto on the 9th Floor), which airs on BS Nittele. The show is a daring venture to create a new form of television from scratch, and this live event offers a rare glimpse into its creative process.
The core of the performance revolves around an original story penned by Kinichi Hagimoto himself. This narrative has been brought to life through animation by his last disciple, Yumi Takagaki, who is renowned for her manga artistry. During the live show, the animated story will be projected onto a screen, and Kinichi Hagimoto, along with Yumi Takagaki and other cast members like Hanjo Ojisan, will perform a live “afureko” – a Japanese term for voice acting or dubbing.
The twist? The cast members will be improvising their lines without any prior knowledge of the story. This element of spontaneity promises an unpredictable and truly one-of-a-kind experience. Kinichi Hagimoto is also known for his playful interaction with the audience, so there is a possibility that attendees might find themselves swept into the improvisational fun. “How will it unfold? Only by being there can you truly know!” This sentiment encapsulates the spirit of the show.
Attendees should note that television cameras will be present to record the event for the “9-kai no Hagimoto-san!” program, and there is a chance that audience members’ faces may appear on screen. Tickets for this extraordinary show are priced at 2,000 yen (tax included) for unreserved seating with an assigned number. They are available for purchase through Confetti. The venue, Shinjuku Batious, is located at 2-45-4 Kabukicho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.

For those unable to attend, reruns of “9-kai no Hagimoto-san!” Season 1 are broadcast on BS Nittele every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:26 AM to 5:30 AM. More content from Hagimoto Kikaku can also be found on their YouTube channel, “Obi Kin.”
