The Genesis of #OshiMesse®
Sen-il Japan, an agency specializing in “Oshi Koukoku®” (birthday/support advertisements for “Oshi” – a beloved artist or character, akin to one’s ultimate bias), developed ‘#OshiMesse®’ to overcome the limitations of traditional advertising. Conventional ad placements often involve lengthy review processes and do not directly benefit the artists financially. ‘#OshiMesse®’ revolutionizes this by offering a system where messages can be reflected on digital signage within minutes of purchase (for future events, this event is pre-order only). This allows for real-time fan engagement and direct support, transforming the way fans interact with their idols. It’s a modern evolution from handwritten fan letters, enabling fans to convey their feelings with just a smartphone.
A Glimpse into the Future of Fan Culture
This initiative is not the first for ‘#OshiMesse®’. It has previously been implemented at various events, including performances by the Orix Buffaloes official dance & vocal unit “BsGravity,” voice actress and artist Ayaka Ohashi, and singer-songwriter Miyu Kanou. These successful implementations have already provided new fan experiences at live events.
As ‘#OshiMesse®’ continues to expand to more artists and sports teams, it aims to become a new cornerstone of fan culture. It stands as a “third means of support,” complementing traditional fan letters and “Oshi Koukoku®,” bridging the gap between fans and their cherished “Oshi” in an increasingly digital world. This move signifies a broader trend in Japan’s kawaii culture, where direct, meaningful fan interaction is becoming more accessible and impactful, potentially setting a global precedent for fan engagement.
