A Kaleidoscope of Cultures: Kansai University’s New Visual Identity
Kansai University has launched a striking new campus visual, a collaborative masterpiece with the internationally acclaimed design studio IC4DESIGN. Unveiled on January 3rd in newspaper advertisements, this intricate illustration, affectionately known as “Kandai World,” serves as a vibrant symbol of the university’s dedication to fostering international learning and a rich environment of multicultural coexistence.

This initiative marks a significant step in communicating the university’s widespread efforts in international education. Kansai University has consistently prioritized global learning, developing unique educational programs and initiatives that encourage collaboration among students from various backgrounds. These efforts were further solidified when the university, in partnership with Osaka Metropolitan University, had its “Osaka Social Impact Project (OSIP)” adopted by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). This project has spearheaded comprehensive reforms, including the development of multicultural coexistence courses and the creation of environments that naturally facilitate interaction between domestic and international students.
The Artistry Behind “Kandai World”
IC4DESIGN, known for its meticulous and imaginative illustrations, immersed itself in the Kansai University campus environment. The studio observed how students from different backgrounds and cultures naturally connect and learn together, capturing the university’s distinct atmosphere—a blend of “Gochattoshiteiru” (meaning diverse and bustling, yet harmoniously unified). This unique vibe was then interwoven with the dynamic energy of Osaka, meticulously brought to life through IC4DESIGN’s signature detailed style.
One of the visual’s most compelling features is its depth, offering new discoveries with every glance. Beyond showcasing the diversity of students, the illustration subtly incorporates historical figures and characters with ties to Kansai University, adding a playful dimension for both internal and external audiences to enjoy.
IC4DESIGN shared their perspective on the creation, stating, “We infused the atmosphere of ‘diversity and chaos yet somehow harmonious’ that we felt when visiting Kansai University directly into one single picture. While depicting the vibrancy of Osaka and the natural interactions of students, we also discreetly included historical figures and people connected to Kansai University, making it enjoyable down to the smallest detail.”
