Immersive Experiences: From Virtual Horrors to Real-World Mysteries

A major draw was the real-world escape game, “Escape from Ura-Shinkomachi,” inspired by the VRChat world’s highly acclaimed horror experiences. This puzzle-solving adventure, co-created by QADESH Project and VR horror author Rarirurero Nakada’s Nakada Production, captivated approximately 100 participants. The demand was immense, with reservations oversubscribed by 3.5 times, highlighting the fervent enthusiasm for this unique blend of virtual lore and physical challenge.

The narrative of the escape game extended from the popular VRChat horror version (2024), which boasts over 50,000 plays, and the award-winning 45-minute YouTube film 『HERO -埼馬県警未詳事件対策課-』. Participants delved into a meticulously crafted environment of visuals, sounds, and props, working together to unravel a mystery within a 15-minute timeframe. Successful solvers were rewarded with exclusive items, including a special badge set.

Bridging Art and Fashion: VR Photography and Real-World Style

The event also showcased a compelling collaboration with Fujifilm, focusing on VR photography. A panel exhibition featured 12 winning entries from a photo contest held within the “Tokyo Mood by BEAMS” VRChat world. These works, displayed as “WALL DECOR” photo panels produced by Fujifilm’s official online print service, underscored the artistic potential of virtual environments.

Complementing this, a 40-page photo zine titled 『Tokyo Mood Snap』 was unveiled, featuring street snaps of 29 VRChat users enjoying real-style avatar fashion. This publication vividly illustrated the burgeoning virtual fashion scene, listing over 100 virtual fashion brands used in the featured stylings. “It’s incredible to see how much creativity flourishes in virtual fashion, and now it’s inspiring real-world style!” one attendee was overheard saying, reflecting the sentiment of many.

Community and Connection: Interactive Zones and Familiar Faces

The event fostered a strong sense of community through various interactive elements:

  • Message Board: A physical recreation of the “Shinkomachi Neighborhood Association Bulletin Board” from the VRChat world, where attendees left heartfelt messages and illustrations.

  • Tsukky’s Gashapon: A capsule toy machine featuring Tsukky, an avatar introduced during the “Tokyo Mood by BEAMS” 1st-anniversary live event in VRChat. Attendees could receive a free gashapon by following Virtual BEAMS on X and completing a survey. More about Tsukky can be found on Tsukky’s Instagram.

  • Craft Boss Tea: Suntory’s “Craft Boss World’s TEA” was distributed to all attendees, a familiar sight for VRChat users as its 3D model is freely available in the virtual space.

The Future of Hybrid Experiences

This event marks a significant evolution in how virtual communities translate into real-world engagement. By offering deeply interactive and multi-sensory experiences, “Tokyo Mood by BEAMS Real” demonstrated the powerful synergy between digital innovation and physical presence. As virtual platforms like VRChat continue to grow, the boundaries between online and offline will likely become even more fluid, paving the way for more hybrid events that celebrate digital culture in tangible ways. This pioneering approach from BEAMS and QADESH Project sets a compelling precedent for how brands can foster deeper connections with their global audiences, bringing the unique charm and creativity of Japanese virtual culture to the world stage.
