Spotlight on Tokushima’s Artisans

These workshops offer more than just a craft; they are an introduction to the philosophies and techniques of the artisans themselves.

Ebuchi Kyodaiten specializes in traditional Japanese furniture, including dressing tables (kyodai) and chests, crafted using the ancient “sashimono” technique—a nail-free joinery method that highlights the natural beauty and strength of wood. Each piece is lovingly made by skilled craftspeople, embodying the spirit of Tokushima’s furniture-making heritage.

LHOOQ (Blue Knot Inc.) is a circular personal care brand rooted in the philosophy of “natural circulation aesthetics.” By blending the wisdom of nature with advanced technology, LHOOQ harnesses the power of Japanese medicinal plants to create formulations that nurture beauty from within. Their products, presented in minimalist designs, aim to bring tranquility and harmony to daily care routines.

Mori Kogei, established in 1953, is a workshop dedicated to “designing the expression of wood” through veneer processing. Their creations, such as the RAYS series and TSUKIT sheets, emphasize delicate wood grains, bringing the inherent beauty of wood into living spaces and everyday items.

The Vision of MONOKATARI EXPO 2025: Bridging Digital and Real

“MONOKATARI EXPO 2025” is a groundbreaking exhibition that uses digital technology to introduce traditional crafts and manufacturing companies from across Japan. This particular Tokushima special exhibit, supported by the Tokushima Chamber of Commerce, is part of a larger initiative running from December 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, at KITTE Osaka’s 2F GiftPad space and @JP Cafe. It aims to create new sales channels and brand value by offering hybrid experiences that merge digital and real interactions, including walk-through videos (inner views) via a “Digital Mall” and immersive VR experiences.

Visitors can explore a diverse range of items, from intricately designed wooden tissue cases to indigo-dyed coasters and decorative cubes, reflecting Tokushima’s rich cultural heritage.
