A New Sweet Destination in Historic Kamakura
Kamakura, a city renowned for its rich history and picturesque charm, is about to welcome a new culinary sensation. On December 20, 2025, “Torori Tenshi no Warabimochi Kamakura Komachi Store” will celebrate its grand opening, bringing its signature melt-in-your-mouth Japanese sweets to the heart of this iconic destination. This marks a significant moment for both locals and tourists eager to experience a modern twist on traditional wagashi.

Since its first store opened in Osaka in 2020, Torori Tenshi no Warabimochi has rapidly expanded its footprint, not only across Japan but also internationally. Its flagship product, “Nama Warabimochi” (raw warabimochi), has gained immense popularity, selling up to 600 pieces a day. Unlike typical warabimochi, this confection is celebrated for its “torotoro” texture—a wonderfully soft, almost liquid consistency that dissolves delicately in the mouth. It’s crafted using hon-warabi powder, a precious ingredient sourced from the root of the bracken fern, with only 70 grams obtainable from 10 kilograms of roots.
The Innovation of “Drinking Warabimochi”
Beyond the traditional offerings, the brand is also famous for its “Nomu Warabimochi” (drinking warabimochi), a creative beverage that has become a social media darling. This innovative drink was born from a simple, yet brilliant, idea: a high school part-timer’s playful thought—”It’s so melt-in-your-mouth, you could probably drink it with a straw!”—sparked the creation of this now-iconic beverage. It features the same tender warabimochi at the bottom of a cup, topped with rich fresh cream, creating a delightful new texture experience that sells up to 500 cups daily.
