The Iru-kun Challenge Takes Center Stage
The interview, now available on the anime’s official YouTube channel, sees Toki-san and Ito-san meeting Iru-kun for the very first time. Five engaging discussion themes were prepared to delve into the anime’s appeal. However, a special rule was added: if Iru-kun’s challenge fails, the discussion immediately stops! This high-stakes (and hilariously low-stakes) format put the responsibility of conveying the anime’s charm squarely on Iru-kun’s shoulders. Viewers can watch Iru-kun tackle a ‘one-legged stand challenge,’ ‘shuttle runs,’ ‘hula hooping,’ and ‘basketball dribbling.’ The final challenge saw Toki-san and Ito-san join in for a rematch of the ‘egg bowling’ game previously enjoyed at ‘AnimeJapan 2025’ in March.
Meet the Characters
Iru-kun, voiced by Junichi Toki, is the protagonist who finds himself reincarnated as a dragon’s egg. With faint memories of his past life, he harbors a gentle wish to befriend humans in this new world. His goal is to level up and evolve into a powerful dragon, not only to survive but also to bridge the gap with humanity.

The enigmatic ‘Voice of God,’ voiced by Ami Koshimizu, speaks only to Iru-kun. It automatically announces Iru-kun’s level and skill increases and provides details on enemies. However, it frequently dismisses Iru-kun’s questions with a curt ‘I cannot provide that explanation,’ much to Iru-kun’s annoyance.

Millia, voiced by Miku Ito, is a bright, gentle, and somewhat reserved girl living in a forest village. She is one of the few users of healing magic in her village, assisting with the injured, patrolling the village surroundings, and helping to subdue monsters. Her strong sense of responsibility draws her into an incident involving a baby dragon.

A Rollicking Fantasy Adventure Awaits
The story begins with the protagonist awakening in an unfamiliar forest, seemingly a fantasy world unknown to them. Surrounded by fearsome monstrous beasts, they discover their own form: an egg! Reincarnated as a dragon’s egg, the path to becoming a dragon involves hunting monsters to gain levels. ‘Fighting? Impossible! I’m just an egg!’ Despite the initial struggles, the protagonist manages to evolve, only to be classified as a ‘monster’ by the very humans they wish to befriend. Thus begins the constantly changing, rolling adventure of Iru-kun, a dragon’s egg always in a desperate situation, just wanting to get along with humans!
The anime is based on the light novel series ‘Reincarnated as a Dragon’s Egg ~I’ll Aim for Nothing Less Than the Strongest~’ by Nekoko, with illustrations by NAJI Yanagida. RIO handles the manga adaptation. The series is directed by Yuta Takamura, with Noriyoshi Arai as assistant director and Tatsuhiko Urahata overseeing series composition. Character design is by Masato Onoda, and monster design by Hirofumi Oda. The captivating opening theme, ‘Gliding Claw,’ is performed by Sizuk, and the ending theme, ‘Sky Clipper,’ by Doh & Sakujaku.
Watching Iru-kun’s valiant efforts in the challenges, one can’t help but feel the playful spirit of the show. As Junichi Toki, Iru-kun’s voice, expressed during the event, ‘The more Iru-kun tries, the more you want to cheer him on, just like in the anime!’ This sentiment perfectly captures the endearing charm that fans can expect from the series.
