Unlock the Power of Beautiful Handwriting: NHK Publishing Launches New ‘Bimoji’ Practice Notebook

Master the Art of Personal Connection in a Digital World with Hiroyuki Aoyama’s Latest Guide

In an era dominated by screens and digital communication, the warmth of a handwritten note often stands out. NHK Publishing is set to release “Bimoji Practice Notebook: Conveying Feelings with Immediately Usable Examples” (『今すぐ使える文例で 心を伝える 美文字練習ノート』) on November 29, 2025. This new guide, authored by renowned calligrapher and beautiful handwriting researcher Hiroyuki Aoyama, aims to empower readers to transform their everyday handwriting into a powerful communication tool.

The book highlights that “Bimoji” (beautiful characters) are more than just aesthetically pleasing; they are a potent means of fostering smoother human relationships. Whether it’s a quick message on a sticky note, a heartfelt sentiment on an ippitsusen (a small note paper), or a personalized touch on a New Year’s card, clear and elegant handwriting can convey sincerity and appreciation in a way digital text often cannot.

The “Aoyama Method” offers eight distinct techniques designed to make the journey to beautiful handwriting accessible to everyone. The book is structured to provide practical, easy-to-follow lessons that can be integrated into daily life. It emphasizes commonly used phrases and greetings, ensuring that learners can immediately apply their new skills to real-world scenarios.

One of the book’s key appeals is its focus on practical application. It offers a wealth of examples for various situations, from simple thank-you notes to seasonal greetings. Imagine the delight of receiving a message card adorned with elegant script, or a New Year’s card where your personal message truly shines.

Hiroyuki Aoyama, the author, shares his philosophy: “Beautiful handwriting is the strongest communication tool. In an age where we mostly ‘type’ rather than ‘write,’ the value of handwriting has only increased. A beautiful handwritten note has the power to capture attention and move hearts. It’s a ‘person-friendly’ script that reduces stress for the reader and ensures your message is conveyed correctly.”

The book is divided into a “Basic Section” and a “Practical Section.” The Basic Section covers fundamental tips for efficient learning, such as posture and specific rules for writing hiragana and kanji. For instance, Method ② focuses on three rules for hiragana, emphasizing how curves should rise to the right to create well-balanced characters.

The Practical Section then applies these methods to real-world scenarios, providing abundant examples for message cards, sticky notes, greeting cards for special occasions (birthdays, weddings, Mother’s Day), ippitsusen for thank-you notes and business correspondence, and seasonal postcards like New Year’s and summer greetings.
