Step into a Time Capsule: FuRyu Commemorates 30 Years of Purikura with Interactive Website and Evocative Film
Japan’s iconic photo sticker booth culture, known as Purikura (a registered trademark of SEGA), is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and FuRyu Corporation, a leading provider in the industry, is kicking off a major project to mark the occasion. On November 26, 2025, the company launched a special website, “Dear Reiwa Kids: How Will You Play with Puri?” and a commemorative movie titled “Purikura® Has Seen It All!”, inviting users to dive deep into three decades of youthful memories.

Since its inception in 1995, Purikura has evolved from a simple photo service into a dynamic entertainment space, capturing countless moments of youth. FuRyu has been at the forefront of this evolution, continuously adapting to new trends. The newly launched project aims to celebrate this rich history while also looking forward to the future of “Kawaii” culture. In July 2025, a historical overview titled “30 Years of Purikura History” was released, setting the stage for this grand celebration.
A Digital Trip Down Memory Lane: The 30th Anniversary Special Website
The special website, “Dear Reiwa Kids: How Will You Play with Puri?” (https://www.puri30th.furyu.jp), is an interactive portal designed to transport visitors back to the Heisei era (1989-2019). It’s filled with nostalgic content and playful features, from a “Gyaru Purikura Album” style timeline to a smartphone-based “Mecha★Heisei Puri” experience.

At the heart of the website are “30 Purikura Common Experiences” (プリあるある), hidden throughout the site. These are the universally relatable moments that defined the Purikura experience for many, such as creating elaborate “Puri-cho” (Purikura albums) in notebooks, or the struggle of trying to peel off a boyfriend’s Purikura sticker from a flip phone’s battery pack. Many will surely nod in agreement at these “Puri-Aruaru,” recalling cherished moments of youth and self-expression.

Experience “Heisei Puri” on Your Smartphone
The “Mecha★Heisei Puri” feature allows users to capture and save nostalgic Heisei-era Purikura photos directly on their smartphones. By selecting “1990’s Mode” or “2000’s Mode” from a dedicated link on the special site, users can enjoy frames and doodles reminiscent of the period, creating photos that feel like a true blast from the past.

“Puri no Dendou Taisho” Campaign: Share Your Memories!
FuRyu is also reviving the “Puri no Dendou” (Purikura Hall of Fame) as a special campaign. Users are invited to submit their memorable Purikura photos—be it funny faces, themed shots, or poetic doodles—via the special website. Thirty lucky participants will receive a five-year free premium membership to “Piclink,” FuRyu’s image acquisition and viewing service. Submitted photos may also be featured in the upcoming “Uchi-ra no Puri Ten” exhibition.

“Purikura® Has Seen It All!”: A 30-Year Journey in Film
The commemorative movie, “Purikura® Has Seen It All!” (https://youtu.be/M1Xk2ZrZN5w), encapsulates 30 years of Purikura history from the birth of “Print Club®” (SEGA/ATLUS) in 1995 to the present day. Through impressive music, lyrics, and visuals, the 90-second film highlights pivotal moments across 1995, 2005, 2011, 2019, and 2025.
Viewers can witness not only the evolution of Purikura technology but also the changing fashion and trends that accompanied youth culture over the decades. The lyrics are particularly noteworthy, featuring era-specific phrases like “Pager 14106 I love you,” “Getting false eyelashes as a Purikura bonus,” and “I want to eat honmoney mahler-kaiwai,” offering a cultural snapshot of each period.

Looking Ahead: More 30th Anniversary Celebrations
FuRyu has an array of additional 30th-anniversary events planned from December 2025 through 2026. These include the revival of “legendary Purikura machines” from 2006, 2011, and 2019, a surprising transformation of nostalgic Purikura into new forms, and the immersive exhibition “Uchi-ra no Puri Ten ~Dear Reiwa By Heisei~” (Our Purikura Exhibition ~Dear Reiwa By Heisei~).
This exhibition is scheduled to take place from March 20 to April 5, 2026, at OPENBASE Shibuya in Tokyo. It will offer a unique opportunity to experience the past, present, and future of Purikura, highlighting its enduring impact on youth culture. Details will be announced on the special website.

FuRyu’s commitment to creating engaging entertainment spaces for youth continues, with various companies that have supported youth culture over the years collaborating on these special projects. These include SEGA FAVE Corporation, Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Tatsumi Electronics Co., Ltd., Me Group Japan Inc., and TOMO Entertainment Inc.
